As a NAUI Assistant Instructor, you will be a respected member of the NAUI Leadership community. NAUI Assistant Instructors must demonstrate good watermanship and diving skills, and as AI's you will have mastered the same skills required of a NAUI Instructor.
The roles of an Assistant Instructor are many. As an integral part of the instructional process you will be able to demonstrate skills, conduct small remedial sessions, act as the safety diver for both confined and open water sessions, and you will have the opportunity to enhance the learning process for the students and become a part of their "NAUI Experience".
The duties and responsibilities you will learn as an Assistant Instructor will give you a solid background in diving education. As an Assistant Instructor you have the right to enter a NAUI Instructor Training Course if you so choose. NAUI recognizes the experience of its Assistant Instructors, and does not require that AI's attend a Preparatory course prior to an Instructor Training Course (note - attendance at a Preparatory course is recommended, especially if you have been away from the "books" for a while).
Candidates must be 18 years of age minimum. They must have at least 20 logged dives and the equivalent of a Master Scuba Diver certification. If they do not have a Master Scuba Diver certification, they must pass a NAUI Master Scuba Diver written test with a minimum score of 75%. Candidates must have a Scuba Rescue Diver certification, with current CPR and First Aid. If CPR and First Aid certifications are unavailable, candidates shall have written verification of competency in both CPR & First Aid (as an example, a firefighter who is qualified as a First Responder would need a written verification of competency from his Chief).
